Il Settembre Lucchese – The Lucchese September
Fun and religious tradition, passing fun and religious tradition from music to Catholic religion, another event worth mentioning is certainly the Feast of Santa Croce on September 14th.
A procession starts from the basilica of San Frediano to reach, through the historic center of the city, the Cathedral of San Martino, where the Santa Croce is kept.
The most striking and exciting aspect of the procession is certainly the luminara: all the buildings along the way are illuminated and decorated with candles, as well as all the people who participate in it are used to carry lit candles in hand, giving life to a sort of illuminated religious parade whose effect is nothing short of stunning.
This event, however, is part of a wider event, the so-called Settembre Lucchese: it is a series of events that take place in various parts of the city throughout the month of September, starting from the markets of antiques and farms, at the huge funfair organized near Borgo Giannotti, joy of young and old.
